Premier Berisha receives mountaineers of Dajti-Alpino-Turistik association

Tirana, February 16, 2011 NOA - Prime Minister Sali Berisha carried on a nice conversation today with the members of the Dajti-Alpino-Turistik association during a meeting held by noon at the premier’s office. The mountaineers came to this meeting following several successful expeditions during which they managed to raise the Albanian flag even in the Mont Blanc and Mount Kilimanjaro. They acquainted the prime minister with their new project, i.e. to raise the Albanian flag at the peak of Mount Everest, the world's highest mountain.

PM Berisha expressed his admiration at their passion for mountaineering and the great results they have achieved in the course of their activity. “I have followed with pleasure your activity in Albania and abroad and we shall make efforts to support you pursue your hobby. Albania has an extraordinary potential in the mountains and that needs to be explored,” said the prime minister.

PM Berisha appreciated especially their project of climbing the highest mountain in the world on occasion of the 100-th anniversary of the Independence and expressed government support for the project. “It will make us proud some day so you will enjoy the full support of the government”, said the prime minister.

The mountaineers thanked the prime minister for backing their activity. They said it was an encouragement for developing this passion of theirs finding an expression even in the recent climbing at the Dajti Mount or Sharri Mount in Kosova and thus giving an important message for all.

During the conversation there were exchanged views on Albania potentials for development of mountain tourism and for encouragement of the mountain sport hobbies among the youth. “Naturally, the coast has turned into a magnet for the youth, - said the prime minister- but, we shall try to do more to encourage their love for the mountains of great and unexplored potentials. We shall consider even concrete forms, like through the school curricula so that to arouse this passion among the youth”.

The mountaineers said they appreciated a lot the building of Arbri road which crosses through a fantastic area. They also highlighted the fact that the beach can be exploited 4 months a year, while the mountains all year long.

At the end of their meeting, the group of mountaineers gave to the prime.
