Not sure what to do with your old mobile? Recycle it!

Tirana, January 25, 2011 NOA/Ervin Tirana – The new handset recycling scheme of Vodafone Albania offers an energy saving lamp for each handset recycled.

Rapid demand for technology has led to the frequent upgrading phones. Only in Europe, millions of phones are replaced every year. This already represents an environmental problem - what to do with electronic waste knowing that dumping old phones and accessories cause pollution through emissions of gases that contribute to the destruction of the ozone layer? Vodafone Group, where Vodafone Albania is part of, has turned the problem into an opportunity to implement environmental protection policies. Old mobiles are collected and recycled to be turned into raw materials for industry, or repaired for use in new markets where the price of a brand new phone is a barrier to purchase them.

Starting from January 26, 2011, with the very support of General Electric, Vodafone Albania launches the “Go Green” recycling campaign, by awarding an energy saving lamp for all of those that recycle their handset in Vodafone Albania Shops.

Vodafone is the only Albanian operator in the electronic communications field that in line with environmental policies locally and globally, promotes recycling of old handsets. The initial kick-off of the handset recycling scheme dates back in 2006 in Vodafone's main shops.

Last year the "Go Green" recycling campaign brought for the first time in the market the solar mobile charger devices that was awarded to all those who recycled their mobile phones at Vodafone shops network.

With our dedication for the protection of the environment and in the framework of corporate responsibility policies, Vodafone Albania brings another incentive which helps not only to sensitize public opinion toward environmental protection but also to promote energy saving culture.

Anyone is invited to visit Vodafone shops throughout the country and hand in their old handsets that are not in use anymore. This would prevent disposing of these handsets at the traditional trash bins which do not offer the facility to sorting out so as to specially process recycling of handset batteries and other parts that can be harmful for the environment. There are recycling boxes placed in all Vodafone shops.

By recycling even a single handset we help to protect the environment.
